Climb every (marketing) mountain

Winning Copy Writing’ and ‘Winning Novel Writing’ are now sitting relaxing in boxes in a cupboard waiting for the sales process to begin.

Tip 99 reminds readers that writing a book is like climbing a hill with a steep section at the start and a plateau near the top. The important thing is to keep the sales and marketing process rolling at a steady and consistent pace.

I feel like a long-distance Olympic runner who has just won his semi final and is resting before the final. Again, the market process needs to remain steady and mainly consistent, but with some varieties in the pace to shake off the competition – as well as any bouts of lethargy or imposter syndrome on my part.

The marketing methodology will involve sharing as well as selling. My online dictionary states that the origin of the words sell / sales is: “from “Old English sellan (verb),of Germanic origin; related to Old Norse selja ‘give up, sell’. Early use included the sense ‘give, hand (something) over voluntarily in response to a request’.”

Giving or handing over something (knowledge / tips) makes perfect sense. For me it is important to remember that the tips in my books are gifts.

Right now I am setting myself up as a Seller on Amazon (which takes a royalty of 70% on books priced between $3 and $10), with the help of my brilliant PA Gemma Lane. Without her I would feel overwhelmed.
Amazon remains vital for all authors because of the immense value of reviews on the website.
